(WIS) - More information has been released on the fatal collision that shut down I-77 southbound near Blythewood Road for several hours on Wednesday.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. when a tractor-trailer carrying livestock struck a piece of construction equipment in the road, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper David Jones.

The construction worker, identified by the Richland County Coroner's Office as Nathaniel B. Deaton, 48, of Martinsburg, IN, was thrown from the bucket and into the roadway where he died.

I-77 SB reopened around noon Wednesday.

There is no word on other injuries at this time. Cattle on the tractor-trailer have been transported from the scene on another semi-truck. The construction equipment has been removed as well.

WIS will continue to update this story.
